Nearby drinkers trying to enjoy the sunny afternoon were ushered inside bars for their own protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The force estimated that just under 1,000 people were in the city centre to protest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two women, aged 27 and 28 years, were held on suspicion of assaulting police. and he wanted &#8216;millions of foreigners deported&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We&#8217;re taking over Birmingham today,&#8221; said Mr Golding, who was flanked by a team of security. &#8220;This is our city, the second-largest city in England and today it belongs to the British people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We want our country back. We want millions of foreigners deported. I am here in solidarity with people who do not want to see their message.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Birmingham City Council;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Birmingham City Council&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Birmingham City Council<\/a> senior officials and West Midlands mayor Richard Parker had also called on Britain First to stay out of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New council leader Roger Harmer and other members of his cabinet issued a joint statement which read: \u201cBirmingham\u2019s diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we are proud to be a place where people from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths live and work side by side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe stand firmly against hatred, division and the scapegoating of any community and in solidarity with all our diverse communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOur city\u2019s history and future are built on respect, inclusion and opportunity for all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe encourage residents to continue showing the values that make Birmingham what it is \u2014 welcoming, resilient and united.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mr Parker posted on X: &#8220;Britain First are protesting in Birmingham today. They are not welcome.
