{"id":67748,"date":"2026-06-22T02:42:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T02:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/67748\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T02:42:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T02:42:25","slug":"breaking-news-no-direct-bedford-to-london-trains-this-week-as-rail-recovery-operation-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/67748\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking news: No direct Bedford-to-London trains this week as rail recovery operation begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rail passengers travelling to and from Bedford are being warned to expect significant disruption for most of next week following Friday\u2019s fatal train collision south of the town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The railway between Bedford and Luton is expected to remain closed until at least the end of next week as investigators continue their work and engineers carry out a complex recovery operation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bedfordindependent.co.uk\/progress-publishing-reader-support\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"971\" height=\"251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/TEMPORARY-BW-BedfordiansNOTBillionaires-100.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-94353\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers are being advised to travel only if their journey is essential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disruption follows Friday\u2019s collision involving two East Midlands Railway trains near Elstow, which claimed the life of a train driver and left dozens of people injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bedfordindependent.co.uk\/one-person-dies-and-dozens-injured-after-passenger-trains-collide-near-bedford\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">One person dies and dozens injured after passenger trains collide near Bedford<\/a><\/p>\n<p>No direct trains<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Bedford passengers, the biggest impact is the loss of direct rail services to London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East Midlands Railway services will terminate at Bedford rather than London St Pancras, while Thameslink services will run only as far north as Luton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means there will be no direct train services between Bedford and London while recovery work continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers travelling south will need to use replacement bus services between Bedford and Luton before continuing their journeys by train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rail operators have warned that replacement buses will have limited capacity and journeys are likely to take significantly longer than normal.<\/p>\n<p>Replacement buses<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From Monday, Thameslink will operate replacement buses between Bedford and Luton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A shuttle service between Bedford and Luton Airport Parkway, calling at Luton, will run every 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional buses will run between Bedford and Luton, calling at Flitwick, Harlington and Leagrave.
