Diageo has informed the Irish Government of potential job cuts in Ireland that is estimated to affect around 150 roles in the country, according to media reports.<\/p>\n
The brewer employs around 1,200 people in Ireland<\/a> in various departments, such as brewing, production of liqueurs, marketing, sales and commercial, the RT\u00c9 has reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Department of Enterprise has acknowledged that it received a notification of proposed collective redundancies from Diageo<\/a> Ireland yesterday (22 June), the report said citing a spokesperson.<\/p>\n Newly appointed CEO and former Unilever and Tesco executive, Dave Lewis<\/a>, instructed department heads to reduce headcount and cut costs as part of a corporate restructuring<\/a>, The Financial Times reported last week.<\/p>\n In February, Lewis cut the company’s annual forecast and dividend as part of his task to reduce debt and revive the company.<\/p>\n In May of this year, the Business Post reported that the MD of Diageo Ireland, Louise Ryan, stepped down from the role.<\/p>\n Soon after, the publication reported that Conor Neiland would replace Ryan, effective 1 July 2026.<\/p>\n Investment In Ireland<\/p>\n Earlier, the spirits maker opened its new Littleconnell Brewery in Newbridge, Ireland, following an investment of nearly \u20ac300 million.<\/p>\n The project was part of the company\u2019s almost \u20ac1 billion capital investment in its operations in Ireland between 2020 to 2029.<\/p>\n This investment also supported expansions at St James\u2019s Gate and Diageo\u2019s packaging site in Belfast.<\/p>\n At the time, Diageo highlighted that the new brewery was constructed in less than 18 months and created 650 jobs during the construction phase.<\/p>\n In partnership with Enterprise Ireland, the project also created 50 permanent jobs.<\/p>\n
