<\/p>\nA man was chased into a Toxteth caf\u00e9 and shot last week<\/p>\n
Merseyside Police outside Bala Bs on Lodge Lane following a shooting inside the cafe on Friday, June 20<\/p>\n
A teenager has been arrested after a shooting inside a caf\u00e9 on Lodge Lane in Toxteth last Friday (June 19). Armed police were called to Bala Bs Soul Food Kitchen at around 5pm following reports that gunshots were fired inside the address.<\/p>\n
Initially, Merseyside Police said nobody was hurt in the shooting before later confirming a man was found with a gunshot wound. The victim, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital.<\/p>\n
Police launched an investigation and this morning (Friday, June 26) the force has confirmed a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.<\/p>\n
The shooting was the second in the area this month. A teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in the street on the corner of Carlingford Close and Selborne Street in Toxteth<\/a> around 8.40pm on Wednesday, June 3.<\/p>\n Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old man had been shot in the arm before running to Carlingford Close. Merseyside Police believe the incident took place outside the African Caribbean Council Community Centre on Amberley Street before he fled and collapsed on the corner of Selborne Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n Detectives are said to be “keeping an open mind” as to whether two shootings in the space of three weeks are connected.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Chris Clark: \u201cI hope the arrest of a suspect reassures our communities that our ongoing investigation continues to gather pace. We are determined to find those responsible and our inquiries continue.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe this was a targeted attack against this individual, who was chased on foot prior to entering the caf\u00e9. For the person carrying the gun to then open fire, with other people inside the building, is extremely reckless and could have had far worse consequences.<\/p>\n \u201cInformation provided by local people affected by gun crime is vital in reducing the threat, risk and harm. We urge anyone with information to come forward to police, anonymously via Crimestoppers, or by speaking to local authorities.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough we have now made an arrest, we are still appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
