We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/david-bull-reform-chair-most-haunted-live-farage-b2767031.html\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reform UK\u2019s former chairman<\/a> has suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/nigel-farage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigel Farage<\/a> should take \u201ca break\u201d from politics, after a bruising week for his party leader over a \u00a35 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/nigel-farage-christopher-harborne-donation-private-jet-b2997523.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gift from a crypto billionaire. <\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Dr David Bull, who was in post until May this year, said he was speaking as a \u201cfriend and a colleague\u201d, days after Mr Farage was tackled about the donation in his first major interview in weeks. <\/p>\n<p>The former Ukip leader was accused of going to ground after a drop in public appearances followed the news he was given millions by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/christopher-harborne-reform-uk-donation-nigel-farage-b2932471.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">party donor Christopher Harborne<\/a>, weeks before standing in the 2024 general election. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/nigel-farage-mps-thailand-clacton-bbc-b3001124.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Commons sleaze watchdog is now investigating Mr Farage <\/a>for failing to declare the money. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/01KVWG8F8F53V34NG2GGXYBBMF.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Farage has been accused of going to ground after it emerged he had accepted a \u00a35m gift from a crypto-billionaire\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Farage has been accused of going to ground after it emerged he had accepted a \u00a35m gift from a crypto-billionaire (PA)<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on Channel 5 this morning, Dr Bull said: \u201cThe party is way bigger than Nigel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Politics is a ruthless business, and I think also one of the other things I would say to [Farage] as a friend and a colleague is he needs to take some time out and have a bit of a break, really,\u201d he added, in comments reported by MailOnline. <\/p>\n<p>The Conservatives seized on the reports to tweet: \u201cBREAKING: The Reform Party. <\/p>\n<p>Europe: The Way BackWe&#8217;re campaigning to rebuild Britain&#8217;s future in Europe<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/subscribe\/promo\/europe-the-way-back-2026into\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JOIN US HERE <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith everyone talking about @Nigel_Farage&#8217;s car crash media round on his \u00a35 million secret donation, the fallout is escalating&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on BBC Breakfast , Mr Farage not only insisted he could spend the \u00a35 million \u201con cars if [he] wanted to\u201d, he told journalists questioning him that what he did with the money is \u201cnone of your business\u201d. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2270753713...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Ex-Reform UK chairman Dr David Bull has suggested Nigel Farage should \u201chave a bit of a break\u201d from politics\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Ex-Reform UK chairman Dr David Bull has suggested Nigel Farage should \u201chave a bit of a break\u201d from politics (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>The interview prompted fresh questions about the cash, which Mr Farage has previously insisted was to pay for private security for the rest of his life, but later claimed was also a \u201creward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>After a year of riding high in the opinion polls, it has been a difficult few weeks for Reform. <\/p>\n<p>The party also suffered a major setback last week when it lost the Makerfield by-election to Labour\u2019s Andy Burnham. <\/p>\n<p>Dr Bull was Reform\u2019s chairman for just under a year, before he was replaced by Lee Anderson last month.<\/p>\n<p>This morning he said he had stepped down from the role as he was \u201cphysically very unwell\u201d, adding that the job \u201cnearly killed me off\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>He spoke of the difficulty of building a political party as he also addressed the rise of Restore Britain, which is outflanking Reform on the right of British politics.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Bull warned: \u201cI think we&#8217;ve been on such a roller coaster, and to build a political party, it&#8217;s quite interesting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will just mention Restore and Rupert Lowe, for example. I think what Rupert&#8217;s finding is that to build a political party is incredibly difficult.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Westminster\u2019s standards watchdog is now looking into whether Mr Farage broke Commons rules by not declaring the \u00a35m donation after his election in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>If the probe finds he committed a serious breach of parliament\u2019s rules, he could be suspended from the Commons.
