Plymouth Herald readers have voiced their opinions following coverage of the city’s vape retail landscape, with strong reactions<\/a> regarding health concerns, local commerce, and the city’s reputation. Discussion also centred on pricing, regulation, and individual accountability.<\/p>\n Plymouth has emerged at the forefront of Britain’s vaping trend after being named the nation’s most vape-obsessed city, a development that hasn’t surprised the city’s director of health.<\/p>\n Leading online vape supplier Vape and Go discovered through examining sales figures and Google search data that Plymouth residents spend four times the national average per capita on vaping products purchased online, and 27 times more than residents in nearby Exeter.<\/p>\n Sales across Plymouth have jumped 223% since 2024, establishing it as the second fastest-growing vaping city in Britain.<\/p>\n Several commenters drew connections between vape retailers and deprivation. With one reader, Sloopdog1 writing: “England\u2019s poorest communities have 70% more vape shop than others, well done Pollard your doing a great job.”<\/p>\n Nochancer26 adds: “What a lovely thing for Plymouth to be known by. So much for Ocean City. Now vape city. Gross.”<\/p>\n RickOshay says: “People need to take responsibility for their own health, education<\/a>, welfare and income instead of blaming others, such as the local MP.”<\/p>\n Not_the_nine_o_clock_news comments: “Those vapes do more damage than smokng proper (not counterfeit) tobacco. Good luck with the water on your lungs – good chance of pneumonia. I prefer to inhale the fresh seafront air on the Hoe – it clears the chest, whereas vapes play tricks with the chest.”<\/p>\n Richardd1. believes: “The answer is simple, Stop renting the empty stores to Vape shop keepers, the price war factor will soon put soon out of business.”<\/p>\n Joanygirl says: “Vaping is a choice – nothing to do with any government!. As for barber shops – they are everywhere and should be looked into, but if men didn\u2019t continue with their awful hair styles, then their hair would not require cutting so often.”<\/p>\n While over on our Facebook<\/a> page, James G comments: “That\u2019s because Plymouth city council<\/a> and our branch of trading standards are as useful as a chocolate fire guard.”<\/p>\n Daniella RL says: ” I get my vapes from Philly’s nice staff, but Plymouth is the best place for vapes, coffee, and a haircut. Go into the market, you’ll feel like you’re in Thailand with all the food places in there now.”<\/p>\n Adam B adds: “About time. We have something to be proud of.”<\/p>\n Richard T thinks: “I mean the cost difference to smoking is night and day once u get away from the rechargeable vapes and into the DIY ones \u00a340 every 2 months for 500ml of juice, probably less than \u00a31 a month for anything else needed.”<\/p>\n
