{"id":72171,"date":"2026-06-28T17:36:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-28T17:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/72171\/"},"modified":"2026-06-28T17:36:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T17:36:41","slug":"camilla-tominey-clashes-with-labour-minister-in-furious-row-over-andy-burnham-hypocrisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/72171\/","title":{"rendered":"Camilla Tominey clashes with Labour Minister in furious row over Andy Burnham \u2018hypocrisy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Camilla Tominey clashed with Labour Housing Minister Steve Reed in a furious exchange after she accused him of \u201chypocrisy\u201d over his support of Andy Burnham.<\/p>\n<p>The Cabinet Minister, long considered a loyalist to Keir Starmer, staunchly defended his backing of the former Manchester Mayor, who is expected to replace the outgoing Prime Minister. <\/p>\n<p>Launching her grilling, Camilla said: \u201cYou were staunchly in bat for Keir Starmer last month, telling everybody he&#8217;s the best thing since sliced bread, and then in a matter of weeks&#8230; you&#8217;re fully supporting Andy Burnham.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public must look at this and think it&#8217;s absolutely ridiculous for you to spend most of May backing the Prime Minister. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now, seemingly, it&#8217;s great that Andy Burnham has come down from Manchester and stabbed him in the back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresumably, you, along with Rachel Reeves and others, are now lining yourselves up for a new job in a new cabinet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Reed insisted there was nothing inconsistent about his position.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;We&#8217;re going to elect a new leader who will become Prime Minister. Guess who that was, Steve Reed. Andy Burnham.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack then, I think the public wanted a general election we just had. We were placing our third Prime Minister in two months, and Liz Truss had crashed the economy,\u201d Mr Reed hit back. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were in chaos. We are not.
