We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/cowbury-reservoir-drowning-uk-weather-b3004568.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">child has died<\/a> after being pulled out of open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/water\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">water<\/a> at London\u2019s Royal Victoria Dock on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/emergency-services\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emergency services<\/a> were called to reports of a child in the water on Silvertown Way at 4.17pm, the Metropolitan Police said.<\/p>\n<p>A boy, who is believed to be 13, was recovered from the water by first responders, and first aid was subsequently performed but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/met-police\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Met Police<\/a> confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.<\/p>\n<p>A police investigation is underway, the conclusion of which will be passed to the coroner. At this stage there is nothing to suggest the involvement of a third party, police stated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2283020421...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"There have been a number of water-related deaths amid the recent UK heatwave\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>There have been a number of water-related deaths amid the recent UK heatwave (AFP\/Getty)<\/p>\n<p>There were no other individuals reported in the water or other reported injuries, the force added.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, who leads public protection in north east London, said: \u201cOur thoughts remain with the boy\u2019s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragedy. We kindly ask that their privacy is respected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also make a plea to the public to avoid speculation and refrain from sharing distressing material online out of respect for the family and to preserve the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur sincere thanks go to the emergency services and partner agencies involved in the search-and-recovery efforts this evening, as well as members of the public who offered assistance and support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incident is now being investigated on behalf of the coroner and inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: \u201cWe were called at 4.07pm on Monday June 29 to reports of a person in the water at Dock Road, Silvertown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART).
