{"id":74408,"date":"2026-07-01T18:28:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T18:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/74408\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T18:28:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T18:28:59","slug":"first-ever-london-heat-plan-prioritises-public-space-adaptations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/74408\/","title":{"rendered":"First ever London heat plan prioritises public space adaptations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As temperatures reach new heights across the UK, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has launched London\u2019s first ever heat plan, Heat Ready London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new Heat Ready London vision focuses on priority areas where change is most needed, calling for the protection of those at highest risk of extreme heat, retrofitting of buildings, expanded access to cooling spaces and improved infrastructure resilience<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe need for action is becoming increasingly urgent as London experiences more frequent and severe heatwaves,\u201d reads the plan. Since record-breaking temperatures in May 2026, and a red heat warning was issued by the Met Office in June 2026 when parts of the capital city experienced 36.4\u00b0C, Khan says:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRising temperatures are no longer a future threat \u2013 they are becoming a growing reality for Londoners. It is affecting our communities, from homes and high streets to schools, hospitals and care services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat is why I am proud to unveil Heat Ready London, London\u2019s first ever heat plan.
