Vance said Britain had been \u201cfailed by its \u2060leadership for a long \u2060time\u201d, adding that he hoped the country\u2019s \u2060next prime minister could deliver the structural change voters were seeking after years of political turmoil.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In an interview with the Sunday Times newspaper, Vance said frequent changes of government pointed to deeper problems in British politics.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced last month he \u200cwould step down after two years in office, paving the way for Britain\u2019s seventh prime minister in a decade. Lawmaker Andy Burnham is widely expected to succeed Starmer after emerging as the sole candidate to replace the outgoing leader.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWhat I see is six prime ministers in the last few years,\u201d Vance told the newspaper. \u201cWhat that says to me is that something is very broken \u2060about British politics and that people are really crying out for significant structural change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cI hope that Andy \u200cBurnham \u2013 and if not Andy Burnham, somebody else \u2013 is able to deliver it,\u201d the vice-president said, adding that \u201cwhoever the prime minister is figures out how to \u200cget Britain back on track\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Vance, whose wife Usha studied at the University \u2060of Cambridge and who has \u2060frequently spoken of his affection for Britain, described the country as an \u201camazing place\u201d with the \u201cmost amazing people in the world\u201d \u200coutside the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"US Vice-President J.D.
