Muhammad, Noah and Leo were the top three for boys with Leo pushing out Oliver, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which compiles the data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A total of 2,386 baby girls were given the name Olivia and it was the most popular girls name in three of nine regions in England and was the favourite for Wales, but it is decreasing in popularity though, with fewer new Olivias each year, down from a peak of 5,204 in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The second most popular name for girls is Lily with 2,249, followed by Amelia with 2,153, Isla with 1,959 and Florence with 1,924. Lily overtook Amelia for second place in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Muhammad was the most popular in four of nine England regions and ranked 34 in Wales. There were 5,957 newborns given the name last year. Completing the top five for boys are Noah with 4,075, Leo with 3,278, Luca with 3,266 and Arthur with 3,211.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">There were 585,396 live births \u2013 284,681 female and 300,715 male \u2013 in 2025 in England and Wales. You can search for different names in our gadget, and see how their popularity has changed over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">New additions to the top 100 names include: Eliana, Gracie, Anaya, Alba, Marnie, Lilah and Frankie for girls; and Vincent, Carter, Stanley and Ruben for boys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Luca was the fastest-growing name last year. A total of 452 extra baby boys were given the name last year compared to in 2024. That took it from the seventh most popular boys&#8217; name to the fourth most popular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">For girls, the fast-growing name was Mabel. An extra 414 baby girls were given the name last year compared to in 2024, taking it from the 37th most popular name to the 16th most popular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Ada is increasingly popular for girls, rising 54 places; Maeve, up 24; and Charlotte, by 24.
