The highlight of the Balboa Theatre\u2019s annual Godzillafest isn\u2019t even a Godzilla movie.<\/p>\n
A screening of \u201cThe Host<\/a>,\u201d Oscar-winning filmmaker<\/a> Bong Joon-ho\u2019s 2006 riff on the kaiju (monster) movies popularized by Japan\u2019s hulking city-stomper, will be hosted by Bay Area visual effects artist Webster Colcord, who served as the South Korean film\u2019s animation supervisor.<\/p>\n Colcord\u00a0\u2014 whose extensive resume includes visual effects work on Steven Spielberg\u2019s \u201cMinority Report<\/a>\u201d (2002), Gareth Edwards\u2019 \u201cGodzilla<\/a>\u201d (2014) and, this year, Jon Favreau\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu<\/a>\u201d\u00a0\u2014 is scheduled to present behind-the-scenes clips and photos along with a model of \u201cThe Host\u201d creature during the program at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18.<\/p>\n The three-day festival begins 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, with \u201cGodzilla, King of the Monsters!<\/a>\u201d (1956), the dubbed Hollywood version of Japan\u2019s original Godzilla movie, \u201cGojira<\/a>\u201d (1954), with inserts of American actor Raymond Burr; and ends with a 7 p.m. Sunday, July 19, screening of \u201cShin Godzilla: OrthoChromatic,\u201d a black-and-white version of the 2016 hit released two years later.<\/p>\n
