Britain’s latest heatwave has already entered the record books, but the extraordinary spell of hot weather may not be finished yet. With temperatures set to remain above 30\u00b0C for days to come, could another milestone soon be reached?<\/p>\n

Britain’s third heatwave of the summer continues to make meteorological history, with Monday marking the ninth consecutive day that somewhere in the UK has recorded temperatures of 30\u00b0C or higher.<\/p>\n

The prolonged spell of hot weather has already become one of the most notable in recent decades, and with forecasts showing little sign of a significant breakdown, forecasters are watching to see whether more records could soon fall.<\/p>\n

While temperatures dipped slightly across some eastern areas on Monday thanks to brisk easterly winds, the heat remains firmly established across much of England and Wales, with highs of around 31\u00b0C expected in the southwest.<\/p>\n

Amber and yellow heat-health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency remain in force until Tuesday, while the prolonged dry weather continues to increase the risk of wildfires across many parts of England and Wales.<\/p>\n

An extraordinary run of summer heat<\/p>\n

The current heatwave has already added to what has been an exceptional summer for UK weather.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Britain recorded its warmest June on record for England and the second warmest for the UK as a whole. A provisional temperature of 37.7\u00b0C was also recorded in Norfolk, setting a new UK June temperature record.<\/p>\n

The UK has already experienced nine days with temperatures reaching 34\u00b0C or higher this year, surpassing the previous record of seven days jointly set in 1976 and 2020.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 2026 has also become the first year in UK records to record temperatures of 35\u00b0C or higher during May, June and July.<\/p>\n

The latest heatwave is now approaching the longevity of the famous summer of 1976, which remains the benchmark for prolonged hot weather in the UK.<\/p>\n

Could another record still fall?<\/p>\n

The answer depends on how long the current weather pattern can hold.<\/p>\n

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring another two days of widespread sunshine and temperatures of 31\u00b0C to 32\u00b0C across southern England, while many northern areas continue to enjoy temperatures well above average.<\/p>\n

Although a few isolated thunderstorms are possible across southern Britain later in the week, most places are unlikely to receive any meaningful rainfall.<\/p>\n

Current forecasts suggest temperatures may ease slightly towards the weekend as northerly winds develop. However, the change is expected to be gradual rather than dramatic, with high pressure remaining close to the UK and conditions staying warm and largely dry.<\/p>\n

That means the current run of hot weather could continue for several more days, even if the most intense heat begins to ease.<\/p>\n
