England<\/a> fans have been left heartbroken after the Three Lions were knocked out of the World Cup in a nail-biting 2-1 loss to Argentina<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ecstasy after Anthony Gordon<\/a> put England ahead just 10 minutes into the second half came crashing down as Enzo Fernandez equalised 85 minutes in and soured even further when Martinez put Argentina in the lead in the 92nd minute.<\/p>\n

It followed a tense game which was littered with fouls and saw tempers flare at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia. <\/p>\n

At Boxpark in Wembley, north London, supporters were dejected after England failed to hold on to their lead. Pictures show fans with their head in their hands as they watched their team once again fail to grasp their chance to make it past the semi-final stage.<\/p>\n

Luke and Vee Moore, twin brothers aged 33, were among those there. Vee said: \u201cWe fumbled it. I\u2019m feeling disappointed, this was a great chance to win the World Cup and this was a weak Argentina team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we got out-classed, I\u2019d be like, okay, cool. England did not play a better team today. We were too defensive after we went one nil up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luke said: \u201cI\u2019m disappointed, I thought it was coming home. Me and my friends were screaming out \u2018you\u2019ve got to bring on subs and attack\u2019. Go for the game, counter, bring Rashford, Madueke, Saka on earlier and kill off the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another England fan said he was \u201cso upset\u201d after the Three Lions\u2019 loss to Argentina, saying the team had not \u201cshown up\u201d.<\/p>\n

Harry Fine, from London, told PA: \u201cMiami in the quarters, the semis here against Argentina \u2013 we haven\u2019t shown up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are we doing? What are we doing? Harry Kane the last two games \u2013 I love him and I\u2019m an Arsenal fan, I want him to do everything for our country. Where were you Harry?<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so upset. I\u2019m so upset. I want to say it\u2019s rigged but it\u2019s not. We bottled it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he thought England had the opportunity to go all the way, he said: \u201cYes. It was ours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading the messages to the England team, the Prince of Wales<\/a> said he was \u201cgutted\u201d but \u201cproud\u201d of Thomas Tuchel\u2019s men.<\/p>\n

\u201cGutted. England, you gave it everything and we are all so proud of you,\u201d William wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to everyone on and off the pitch, for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sir Keir Starmer also said he was \u201cgutted\u201d but praised the team\u2019s \u201cpassion and energy\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cTonight wasn\u2019t the result we all hoped for, but this England team has given it their all,\u201d he said. \u201cThe passion and energy they\u2019ve shown representing the badge has made us all proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans were quick to criticise Mr Tuchel\u2019s management after he switched to defensive substitutions once England were ahead, ultimately leaving them short after Argentina scored twice in quick succession.<\/p>\n

\u201cEngland\u2019s manager, Tuchel, should definitely take the blame for that\u2019s loss,\u201d one wrote on X. \u201cPoor tactical decision making. Decided to go defensive post Gordon scoring. Can\u2019t expect England to defend for 30 mins straight without conceding. Completely changed the momentum of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking outside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Lewis Chester, 58, from London, said the loss was \u201cvery disappointing\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Tuchel\u2019s tactics were too negative and had we gone for it a little bit more after we\u2019d scored, I think it might have been different,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cTuchel\u2019s done very well but this was a golden opportunity and our team are just as good as theirs, but we didn\u2019t prove it on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
