{"id":84233,"date":"2026-07-16T13:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/84233\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:43:13","slug":"natwest-to-hike-fixed-rates-as-middle-east-tensions-bite-mortgage-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/84233\/","title":{"rendered":"NatWest to hike fixed rates as Middle East tensions bite \u2013 Mortgage Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NatWest will increase residential fixed rates from 17 July by up to 17bps, in reaction to rising swap rates.<\/p>\n<p>The lender is the latest big bank to increase rates this week, with Nationwide and Virgin Money also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk\/news\/nationwide-and-virgin-money-raise-rates-by-up-to-35bps\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hiking mortgage rates from 16 July<\/a>, with fixed-rate deals rising by as much as 35bps.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Barclays is increasing residential rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk\/news\/barclays-to-hike-rates-by-up-to-34bps\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by up to 34bps today<\/a>, while Coventry Building Society and Gen H are also raising prices.<\/p>\n<p>L&amp;C Mortgages associate director David Hollingworth said: \u201cThe story for mortgage rates in recent weeks has generally been positive, as cuts to fixed rates have dragged the market in a positive direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe resumption of hostility in the Middle East has caused further uncertainty in financial markets, as the threat of higher interest rates returns.\u00a0 That\u2019s affecting lenders\u2019 funding costs and has already resulted in several major lenders announcing that they have increased fixed rates or are about to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough many increases have so far been slight, others are chunkier.\u00a0 For example, Nationwide\u2019s leading two-year fix for purchases at 4.24% has now lifted to 4.59%, an increase of 35bps equating to an uplift in monthly payments of almost \u00a340pm or \u00a3480 per annum.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NatWest will increase residential fixed rates from 17 July by up to 17bps, in reaction to rising swap&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":30733,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[21386],"tags":[37074,725,7955],"class_list":["post-84233","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-natwest","tag-fixed-rate-mortgages","tag-mortgage-rates","tag-natwest"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@UnitedKingdom\/116929953939533500","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84233","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=84233"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84233\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/30733"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=84233"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=84233"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=84233"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
