We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/nigel-farage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigel Farage<\/a> has demanded an immediate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/general-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">general election<\/a>, claiming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/andy-burnham\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Burnham<\/a> has no mandate to run the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Reform UK leader said his party could produce a &#8220;historic upset&#8221;, but Mr Farage warned that if he fails to enter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/no-10\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">No 10<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/britain\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Britain<\/a> risks &#8220;turning into a third world country&#8221; within 10 years. <\/p>\n<p>He added that &#8220;nothing will get better under Andy Burnham&#8221;, who will become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/prime-minister\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prime minister<\/a> on Monday after being confirmed as the new leader of the Labour Party.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Farage, who is fighting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/by-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by-election<\/a> in Clacton after resigning as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/mp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MP<\/a> in protest at parliamentary and media scrutiny of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/finances\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finances<\/a>, said: \u201cThe only certainty with Burnham is we\u2019re going to get more of the same, but they\u2019ll go further to the left than they already are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2286523199...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Burnham was confirmed as the new leader of the Labour Party on Friday\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Burnham was confirmed as the new leader of the Labour Party on Friday (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Burnham) says he wants to have the biggest change of direction in politics in 40 years, outside of 25,000 voters in Makerfield he has literally no mandate for this at all,\u201d Mr Farage added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Burnham has said he will stick to Labour\u2019s 2024 manifesto commitment not to increase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/income-tax\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">income tax<\/a>, national insurance or VAT.<\/p>\n<p>But in a speech to the CPAC GB conference in London, Mr Farage said: \u201cTaxes are going to rise and there\u2019s talk, of course, of property taxes, which will collapse the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/housing-market\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">housing market<\/a>, especially in London and the South East, but it\u2019ll do great damage elsewhere in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTop rate tax, I\u2019ve no doubt, will go up and all of these things are happening for a man that has no mandate whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn immigration, he\u2019s never shown the slightest concern about what\u2019s going on and of course, do we think Andy Burnham will take us out of the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights), so we\u2019re back fully in control of our borders?
