Damage was caused to an ATM in a Co Antrim town during an attempted theft in the early hours of this morning.<\/p>\n

At 12.10am on Tuesday, April 7, police were alerted that an attempt had been made to gain access to an ATM in a forecourt in the Middle Road area of Carrickfergus<\/a>. Nothing was taken from the machine during the break-in.<\/p>\n

Following the incident<\/a>, police have released an appeal for information, and have asked anyone who has footage or noticed anything suspicious to get in touch.<\/p>\n

As the initial police investigation is underway, access to the nearby Carrickfergus Cricket Club’s car park has been temporarily restricted. The garage remains open and is operating as normal.<\/p>\n

Local UUP<\/a> MLA John Stewart is also the president of the cricket club, and attended the scene on Tuesday morning. He said: “Folks please be that there has been an incident overnight at the Milestone Garage, Carrickfergus.<\/p>\n

“PSNI<\/a> are currently in attendance and actively dealing with the situation. As a result, the car park at Carrickfergus Cricket Club has been cordoned off and no vehicles are currently permitted to enter or leave the area.<\/p>\n

“The garage itself is open and operating as normal.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve spoken directly with police on site, as well as some of the responders and they are hopeful that the car park will be reopened within the next couple of hours. Investigations on site continue.”<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Lenaghan<\/a> said: \u201cWe received a report at around 12.10am this morning, Tuesday, 7th April that an attempt had been made to gain access to a machine in a forecourt in the Middle Road area. Damage was noted to the ATM but nothing was taken.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn investigation is underway and anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Middle Road area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, or who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 10 of 07\/04\/26.<\/p>\n
