Samsung Electronics America unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Card<\/a> on Monday, marking the company’s first credit card program in the United States. The card is issued by Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank and runs on the Visa network. <\/p>\n

Applications open to the public on July 22 through Samsung.com. The card comes in two versions: a virtual card and a metal physical card bearing a black Samsung logo. <\/p>\n

The card carries no annual fee. Cardholders earn 5% cash rewards on purchases made directly with Samsung, 3% on purchases made through Samsung Wallet, 2% on streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify, and 1% on all other purchases. New cardholders who spend $2,000 within the first 90 days of account opening can earn a $200 cash rewards bonus, Samsung said. Cardholders who use the card to buy or renew a Samsung VIP Advantage membership receive a 20% discount on that membership. <\/p>\n

The card lives inside Samsung Wallet, giving Galaxy device owners a single place to pay and manage their account. The wallet also holds other payment cards, IDs, passes, and digital keys, the company said. <\/p>\n

“For years, users have relied on Samsung products to enhance their daily life \u2014 from staying connected with friends, to relaxation, to productivity,” said Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and head of the Digital Wallet Team at the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, in a statement. “Today, Samsung Galaxy Card offers users a new way to be rewarded every time you pay.” <\/p>\n

Denny Nealon, CEO of Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank, said the partnership reflects Barclays’ strategy of building co-branded card programs with large consumer brands. “Together, we’re creating seamless, rewarding digital banking capabilities and products that meet customers where they are \u2014 in their Samsung Wallet \u2014 and fit naturally into how they live, shop and connect,” Nealon said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Kirk Stuart, SVP and head of North America Enablers, Merchants and Fintechs at Visa, said in a statement that the card brings together Samsung’s product ecosystem, Barclays’ co-brand capabilities, and Visa’s payment network. <\/p>\n

Samsung Electronics America is in the midst of broader organizational changes.
