{"id":88728,"date":"2026-07-23T08:27:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T08:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/88728\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T08:27:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T08:27:32","slug":"hsbc-bermuda-sees-troubling-rise-in-scam-calls-the-royal-gazette","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/88728\/","title":{"rendered":"HSBC Bermuda sees \u2018troubling\u2019 rise in scam calls &#8211; The Royal Gazette"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Created: Jul 23, 2026 03:31 AM (Updated: Jul 23, 2026 03:31 AM)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784795252_773_.jpeg\" uuid=\"66d0b76d-f6e8-58ec-a27a-1f5cd2d6b0d0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tanya Bule, head of wealth and personal banking at HSBC Bermuda (File photograph)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">A senior executive at HSBC Bermuda has warned of a \u201ctroubling\u201d rise in fraud targeting everyday people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Tanya Bule, head of wealth and personal banking, has stated on her LinkedIn page that the bank is seeing a rise in scammers posing as bank employees, calling customers and \u201cwalking them through\u201d steps to supposedly protect their accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThey are convincing,\u201d Ms Bule wrote. \u201cThey are patient and they can cause real harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Ms Bule said scammers often take advantage of the extra banking activity around the Cup Match holiday in Bermuda.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784795252_591_.jpeg\" uuid=\"b220bab1-a25c-5e60-816e-f6f08bf80200\"\/><\/p>\n<p>HSBC Bermuda&#8217;s Front Street headquarters (File photograph)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Senior citizens are disproportionately targeted by these scams, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThe financial and emotional toll can be devastating,\u201d the banker added. \u201cA quick conversation with an older parent, grandparent or neighbour, reminding them never to share banking details and to hang up if they feel pressured could protect a lifetime of savings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Ms Bule reminded the public that HSBC Bermuda will never ask for your passcode or one-time passcode or for any information involved in accessing your accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cIf something feels off, the best thing is to trust that feeling,\u201d she said. \u201cDon\u2019t try to reason it out while you are on the call.
