Actor Iain Robertson has been jailed for nine years after being convicted of raping one woman and assaulting others.<\/p>\n

Robertson, 45, was charged with raping one woman and faced accusations from three others.<\/p>\n

He denied all eight charges, spanning from 2004 to 2020.<\/p>\n

Robertson, of Carbeth, Stirlingshire, was found guilty of five offences against three women between 2004 and 2019 after facing trial last month.<\/p>\n

The River City actor, who played Stevie O\u2019Hara, has now been sentenced to nine years in prison with a further three year supervision period.<\/p>\n

He was also added to the sex offenders\u2019 register indefinitely and made subject to indefinite non-harassment orders.<\/p>\n

The sentence was handed down by judge Lady Drummond at Edinburgh High Court. Robertson appeared via video link from prison.<\/p>\n

He gave no reaction as the sentence was handed down.<\/p>\n

On the opening day of the trial jurors heard pre-recorded testimony from the woman Robertson raped in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n

The two originally met while working together on River City and went on to become friends. However, the 36-year-old woman said that she did not want anything sexual to happen.<\/p>\n

Despite this, the court heard that they later became more intimate and the woman recalled going on to have conversations with Robertson about their relationship going back to being more platonic, which she told the court he \u2018agreed\u2019 to.<\/p>\n

She described the conversation as \u2018a long back and forth\u2019 and stated that Robertson \u2018did not believe\u2019 her when she denied having feelings for him.<\/p>\n

She also stated she felt her \u2018boundaries were being ignored\u2019.<\/p>\n

The court then heard she was at his then home in Glasgow at the time and had planned to sleep on the sofa. However, Robertson allegedly told her she could join him in bed as \u2018nothing would happen.\u2019<\/p>\n

But, the witness told prosecutor John Keenan KC that the actor \u2018had sex\u2019 with her instead.<\/p>\n

Asked by Keenan whether she was participating in what was going on, the witness replied \u2018no\u2019 and said she did not want it to happen.<\/p>\n

After being asked how Robertson would have known this, the woman added: \u2018From the many conversations and my unresponsiveness.\u2019<\/p>\n
