The Met Office has named more than 30 areas facing heavy rain on Wednesday despite heatwave conditions hitting elsewhere<\/a> in the country. According to new maps from the forecaster, rain is expected to hit Scotland, Northern Ireland, and localised parts of North West England.<\/p>\n

While most of England can expect to dodge the rain amid a potential fourth heatwave of the year<\/a>, Cumberland and Lancashire can expect showers on Wednesday evening. The Met Office<\/a> forecast for Wednesday adds: “Rather cloudy across the north, with outbreaks of rain sinking southwards into northern England during the afternoon.<\/p>\n

“Dry and sunny across the south, where it will feel hot and humid.” Elsewhere in the UK, temperatures could peak at 35C<\/a> across South-east England, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n

Chief forecaster Gregory Wolverson explained: “This is a short-lived spell of heat, but temperatures will climb quickly through the first half of the week, particularly in the southeast.<\/p>\n

“By Wednesday, some areas could see temperatures in the mid-30\u00b0Cs, and while the heat will not be widespread across the whole of the UK, it will be enough for parts of the southeast to likely meet official heatwave criteria by Thursday.<\/p>\n

“Elsewhere, the weather will be more changeable, and the change to cooler, more unsettled conditions will arrive sooner from the north and west, with a mix of sunshine and showers.<\/p>\n
