GSK plc (LSE\/NYSE: GSK) today announced plans to establish a major
\nnew global R&D centre in Cambridge, UK, as part of the
\ncompany’s plan to accelerate its R&D pipeline. The new 300,000
\nsquare foot site, on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the heart
\nof the UK’s life sciences “Golden Triangle,” will be home to GSK’s
\nR&D operations in the UK and more than 1,000 GSK
\nscientists.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is one of the largest biomedical
\ncampuses in Europe. The new location will provide GSK scientists
\nwith direct access to a world-class ecosystem of biomedical
\nresearch, patient care and academia, enabling translational
\nresearch by bridging laboratory science with clinical
\npractice.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The GSK site will feature state-of-the-art, tech-enabled labs and
\ninfrastructure to support research in the company’s focus areas of
\nOncology, Respiratory, Hepatology, Vaccines and HIV.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is home to more than 22,000 people
\nworking in life sciences, with more than 37,000 people visiting
\nevery day. More than 1 million patients are treated on the campus
\nevery year, and over 470 biopharma\/ biotech and AI companies are
\nlocated there. These include many existing GSK partners and
\ncollaborations, such as, the Cambridge Centre for Data-Driven
\nDiscovery; Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration;
\nCambridge-GSK Metabolic Science Collaboration; Cambridge Immune
\nAgeing; GSK-Teichmann Lab; and GSK’s Clinical Unit at Addenbrooke’s
\nHospital.<\/p>\n

The site in Cambridge, currently in development by Prologis, will
\nbe part of GSK’s wider UK network of collaboration with leading
\nacademic institutions and pioneering scientific organisations,
\nincluding the University of Oxford, Kings College London, Imperial
\nCollege, the University of Manchester, Wellcome and the Crick
\nInstitute.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
As a result of the planned move to Cambridge, GSK will vacate its
\nR&D site at Stevenage, Hertfordshire, with a phased move for
\nemployees by 2029. Alongside the move to Cambridge, GSK will also
\nupgrade its existing R&D laboratories at Ware in Hertfordshire
\nand move some employees there to create a fully integrated drug
\ndevelopment and commercial manufacturing scale up capability.
\nOverall, the company plans to invest \u00a3400 million over 3 years
\nin support of these changes.<\/p>\n

GSK will retain its global headquarters in London, which is
\nunaffected by today’s announcement.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
