{"id":92492,"date":"2026-07-29T03:29:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T03:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/92492\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T03:29:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T03:29:10","slug":"luxury-cars-linked-to-3b-money-laundering-probe-for-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/92492\/","title":{"rendered":"Luxury cars linked to $3b money laundering probe for auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Lee Nian Tjoe and Andrew Wong<br \/>The Straits Times<br \/>July 28, 2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A total of 47 luxury cars linked to the foreigners investigated in Singapore\u2019s <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/trending-now\/3b-money-laundering-case-sporean-jailed-lying-police?ref=inline-article-9436287\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">largest money laundering case<\/a> are being auctioned off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">An <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/47-cars-including-11-rolls-royces-linked-to-3b-money-laundering-probe-up-for-closed-bid-auction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">internal listing seen by The Straits Times<\/a> on July 23 showed at least 11 Rolls-Royce cars in an auction by Sgcarmart Quotz, an online platform for used-car dealers and registered companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The closed-bidding auction was publicised in ST\u2019s classified pages on July 28.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A spokesperson for Deloitte, which was appointed to manage the liquidation of the seized assets on Aug 12, 2025, confirmed with ST that it had appointed Quotz to auction off the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Scroll to continue reading<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Included in the list are two Bentley Flying Spur limousines and supercars from brands like Ferrari and McLaren, along with 24 high-end seven-seaters like the Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The cars were registered between 2017 and 2023, with valid certificates of entitlement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">One of two Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB Series II cars that were registered on May 13, 2023, had been driven for just 284km. A Ferrari SF90 Stradale Plug-in Hybrid, which was registered in the same month, has 500km on its odometer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The oldest car on the list is a Bentley Flying Spur from March 15, 2017, with a mileage reading of 22,530km.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Checks by ST found sellers of used Ferrari SF90s, registered between 2021 and 2023, were asking for around $1.6 million for the car, while a 2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB Series II had an asking price of around $2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Several of the cars in the listing appeared coated with dust, and the steering wheels of at least four sports cars had what looked like mould on them, based on the images published on the auction webpage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Some of the cars\u00a0<a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/28b-money-laundering-case-porsche-2-rolls-royces-among-4-cars-seized-from-bt-timah-bungalow?ref=inline-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">had been in storage since October 2023,<\/a>\u00a0including a Rolls-Royce Dawn and <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/singapore-seen\/porsche-driver-finds-note-saying-ill-slaughter-pigs-support-you-his-car-its-his-wife?ref=inline-article-9436287\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Porsche<\/a> 911 Targa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The workshop inspection reports, which accompany the vehicle listings, showed that many of the cars need restoration work, including replacement of batteries and tyres, and in some cases, an overhaul of the air-conditioning system and repairs to air suspension systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Some of the cars come with vehicle registration numbers like \u201c888\u201d or a single digit like \u201c1\u201d. Geoveen Hi, a veteran motor trader, said the registration numbers alone can fetch upwards of $60,000 in the resale market.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mx-auto block max-h-full max-w-full object-contain\"  alt=\"47 cars, including 11 Rolls-Royces, linked to $3b money laundering probe up for closed-bid auction\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4145b74f10eea5362794a6a686ed2b1b10f6a59ce155ecd4f2278787b126063d.webp\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A car listing on Sgcarmart on July 28.<\/p>\n<p>PHOTO: THE STRAITS TIMES<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Hi, who is thinking about bidding for some of the vehicles, said that for cars like the Rolls-Royce Phantom, successful bidders will have to set aside between $50,000 and $60,000 in repairs before they can hit the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The auction comes three years after a police <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/billion-dollar-money-laundering-case-what-will-happen-to-cars-bags-and-watches-seized-by-police?ref=inline-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">anti-money laundering blitz on Aug 15, 2023,<\/a>\u00a0led to the arrest of 10 foreigners. They were sentenced for a number of offences including forgery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">They were later\u00a0<a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/three-more-men-in-3-billion-money-laundering-case-deported-to-cambodia-japan?ref=inline-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">deported and banned from re-entering Singapore<\/a>\u00a0after serving sentences of between 13 and 17 months. They also surrendered cash and assets seized in the investigation as part of their sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">ST understands that the cars listed for auction include several that belonged to 17 suspects who managed to evade arrest by fleeing Singapore. In total, 15 later agreed to surrender their assets valued at around $1.85 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The Ferrari SF90 Stradale Plug-in Hybrid in the list, and a blue Ferrari F8 Spider also being auctioned, previously belonged to one of the fugitives, <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/singapore-seen\/fugitive-linked-to-3b-money-laundering-case-hired-waitresses-social-escorts-for?ref=inline-article-9436287\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Su Bingha<\/a>i.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">ST reported in January 2024 that the Government confiscated 207 properties, 77 vehicles, more than $1.45 billion in bank accounts and more than $76 million in cash of various currencies linked to the criminal network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A police spokesperson previously told ST the seized assets cost $2.65 million in the 2023 and 2024 financial years to maintain and manage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Some 33 vehicles were liquidated by the Government as at December 2024.
