{"id":92882,"date":"2026-07-29T11:35:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T11:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/92882\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T11:35:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T11:35:24","slug":"18-never-seen-before-georgia-okeeffe-paintings-are-going-on-display-at-londons-courtauld-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/92882\/","title":{"rendered":"18 Never Seen Before Georgia O\u2019Keeffe Paintings are Going on Display at London\u2019s Courtauld Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re familiar with Georgia O\u2019Keeffe, it\u2019s probably for her iconic paintings of magnified flowers spanning vast, colourful canvases.\u00a0A\u00a0trailblazing artist and pioneer of twentieth-century painting, one of O\u2019Keeffe\u2019s works \u2013\u00a0Jimson Weed\/White Flower No. 1 1932 \u2013\u00a0remains one of the most expensive paintings by a female artist ever sold at auction, having fetched US$44.4 million in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Over her seven-decade career, O\u2019Keeffe also turned her paintbrush to other subjects, most notably animal skulls and New Mexico\u2019s desert landscapes, and the latter will be the focus of a new show coming to London next year.\u00a0In October 2027, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-courtauld-just-announced-its-spectacular-2026-london-programme-with-exhibitions-on-barbara-hepworth-georges-seurat-and-more-090525\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Somerset House\u2019s Courtauld Gallery<\/a> will host almost two dozen O\u2019Keeffe works, most of which have never been displayed before in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Named Georgia O\u2019Keeffe: Ghost Ranch, the show will be a deep dive into the artist\u2019s New Mexico home and its role in shaping her life and work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"1076bdd0-8102-82a8-c2a1-148e65787ae8\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785324924_599_image.webp\" alt=\"Georgia O\u2019Keeffe Untitled (Red and Yellow Cliffs), 1940 Oil on canvas, 24 \u00d7 36 inches\" data-caption=\"Georgia O\u2019Keeffe Untitled (Red and Yellow Cliffs), 1940 Oil on canvas, 24 \u00d7 36 inches\" data-credit=\"Courtesy of Georgia O\u2019Keeffe Museum. Photo: Tim Nighswander\/IMAGING4ARTGeorgia O\u2019Keeffe Untitled (Red and Yellow Cliffs), 1940 Oil on canvas, 24 \u00d7 36 inches&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As soon as I saw it, that was my country,\u2019 the artist once said of the ranch, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2026\/jul\/27\/new-exhibition-to-explore-how-georgia-okeeffes-desert-home-shaped-her-art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Guardian<\/a>. \u2018I\u2019d never seen anything like it before, but it fitted to me exactly.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Keeffe first moved to Ghost Ranch in 1934 and initially rented a room in the property, which formed part of a 21,000-acre estate. She later bought the place and made it her permanent home. Shrouded in mystery, the ranch is rumoured to have been the site of a murder prior to O\u2019Keeffe purchasing it. It was also the site of some of her most iconic photoshoots, including one with Cecil Beaton for Vogue.<\/p>\n<p>The artist\u2019s last major London show, an exhibition of more than 100 of her most iconic works, took place at Tate Modern a decade ago.
