{"id":95742,"date":"2026-08-02T13:44:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T13:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/95742\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T13:44:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T13:44:15","slug":"city-trading-higher-than-thought-fca-believes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/95742\/","title":{"rendered":"City trading \u2018higher than thought\u2019, FCA believes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tSunday 02 August 2026 1:58 pm<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\u00a0|\u00a0\u00a0Updated:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tSunday 02 August 2026 1:59 pm\n\t<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"742\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-2211256637-e1777980397329.jpg\" class=\"media \" alt=\"GettyImages 2211256637 showing a significant event or figure relevant to recent news updates in the business sector\" fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"sync\"  \/>\t\tTrading in the City on the London Stock Exchange is higher than thought.\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trading volumes in London are up to three times higher in value than thought after so-called \u201cdark trading\u201d is taken into account, the City regulator believes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analysis by the Financial Conduct Authority believes that trading valuations are much higher as some traders opt to use non-official channels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This kind of business, referred to as \u201cdark trading\u201d, accounts for where private deals are made via banks and other financial forums while using prices set on the London Stock Exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Executives at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/london-stock-exchange-unveils-lse24-round-the-clock-trading-venue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">LSE<\/a> said in May that the proportion of trading taking place directly on exchanges was the lowest of any major global market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FCA has now suggested that there is more liquidity, or cash flowing around markets, than previously thought as data on exchanges was underestimating the real value of trading.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New research has aimed to ease concerns about the City\u2019s capital market struggles and prevent companies from moving to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/goldman-sachs-beats-trading-haul-record-by-1bn-after-iran-volatility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">New York <\/a>in their search for better investment offers.
