{"id":97182,"date":"2026-08-04T13:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T13:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/97182\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T13:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T13:26:08","slug":"massachusetts-issues-rfp-seeking-1000mw-of-bess","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/97182\/","title":{"rendered":"Massachusetts issues RFP seeking 1,000MW of BESS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Projects were selected from developer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy-storage.news\/flatiron-energy-proposes-672mwh-bess-at-former-massachusetts-fossil-plant-pauses-indoor-bess-project-in-boston\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FlatIron Energy<\/a>, River Mill Storage, Rhynland Energy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy-storage.news\/jupiter-power-unveils-plan-for-700mw-bess-at-former-exxonmobil-oil-depot-in-massachusetts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jupiter Power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2024, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed comprehensive energy legislation mandating the procurement of 5,000MW of energy storage systems by 31 July 2030.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the RFP, \u201cThe Distribution Companies will be responsible for negotiation and execution of any final LongTerm Contracts. For Distribution Projects, the Distribution Companies will provide selected projects with a standard, non-negotiable contract. DOER will have the opportunity to monitor contract negotiations between the Distribution Companies and selected bidders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the procurement process has three evaluation stages. Stage One verifies that proposals meet eligibility and threshold requirements. Stage Two evaluates proposals against specified quantitative and qualitative criteria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Stage Three, the evaluation team conducts deeper analysis using the Stage Two criteria and additional discretionary factors to select viable projects that \u201cprovide cost-effective, reliable Energy Storage Systems charging and discharging with limited risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confidential and public proposals must be submitted by 9 September, projects will be selected, and negotiations will begin on 27 January, long-term contracts and memoranda of understanding will be executed 28 April and long-term contracts will be submitted for DPU approval on 26 May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July of this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy-storage.news\/vehicle-to-grid-added-to-massachusetts-utilities-connectedsolutions-demand-response-vpp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eversource and National Grid announced that they are integrating vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology into their ConnectedSolutions virtual power plant (VPP) <\/a> through partnerships with\u00a0distributed energy resource management system (DERMS)\u00a0platform provider EnergyHub, Sunrun\u2019s grid services division, and V2G platform provider The Mobility House. ConnectedSolutions runs in northeastern US states, including Massachusetts, where the V2G integration will take place. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme leverages flexible capacity from thermostats, BESS, and commercial and industrial resources to reduce grid strain across five states, orchestrating more than 280,000 distributed energy resources (DERs) and over 800MW of flexible capacity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Projects were selected from developer FlatIron Energy, River Mill Storage, Rhynland Energy, and Jupiter Power.
