It\u2019s like watering a corpse,\u201d said Jim Wayman of 3Ms, one of East Anglia\u2019s biggest potato-growing businesses and a <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/chancellors-budget-adds-further-pressure-which-could-see-the-loss-of-a-major-supermarket\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49575\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major supplier to supermarkets<\/a> including Aldi and M&amp;S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Mr Wayman <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/retailers-warn-labours-zero-hours-crackdown-could-cost-thousands-of-jobs\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49568\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned that farmers were facing impossible demands from retailers<\/a> expecting consistent-sized produce while crops were suffering from conditions beyond their control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cWe\u2019re being accused of scaremongering, and the big retailers are saying their <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/new-generations-of-expectations-at-londons-engage-customer-summit\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49572\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">customers expect<\/a> a certain standard of size \u2014 but we\u2019re saying we can\u2019t do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Potato <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/london-stock-market-delivered-another-blow\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49576\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">market analyst Cedric Porter delivered<\/a> a stark message to consumers: \u201cEat your spuds while you can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/brc-warns-retail-jobs-has-plunged-to-a-record-low-and-the-worse-could-be-yet-to-come\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49570\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warning comes after July became the driest month ever recorded<\/a> for England and Wales, with rainfall levels plunging to historic lows. England received just 6.5mm of rain, while <a href=\"https:\/\/londonlovesbusiness.com\/south-wales-police-under-fire-for-recording-pathetic-anti-islam-comments\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49574\" data-penci-link=\"internal\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wales recorded<\/a> 9.3mm, leaving some areas with less than 1mm throughout the entire month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But the crisis extends far beyond potatoes.
