Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has thanked its dedicated firefighters for their hard work throughout “a particularly busy night”. Multiple serious incidents were reported across the region yesterday, August 4, including a blaze on the roof of Blackstock Market and a burning HGV loaded with hay.<\/p>\n
Fire crews were called to the large HGV fire at the Junction Lane in Newton-le-Willows, close to the Nine Arches, at 8.44pm last night. Two nearby trailers were also on fire.<\/p>\n
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets. Photographs taken by the fire service at the scene show the vehicle ablaze, with black clouds of smoke pouring into the air.<\/p>\n
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “It was a particularly busy night across Merseyside, with multiple significant incidents taking place. To help maintain region-wide cover and ensure we could continue responding to those who needed us, firefighters were recalled to cover additional fire engines.<\/p>\n
“A huge thank you to everyone who was on duty, and to the crews who returned to cover at St Helens<\/a>, Crosby<\/a>, Aintree<\/a>, Wallasey<\/a>, Kensington and Kirkdale<\/a>. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our communities safe.”<\/p>\n The fire service was also called to the Blackstock Market entertainment venue yesterday. They arrived at the scene on Blackstock Street in Vauxhall at around 3am, with four fire engines and one aerial appliance.<\/p>\n Firefighters<\/a> found a fire <\/a>on the roof terrace of the building. All persons were accounted for, and the fire was extinguished at 5.15am, and fans were used to clear the smoke.<\/p>\n The effects of the fire on Blackstock Market rooftop(Image: Blackstock Market)<\/p>\n A Blackstock Market spokesman has now announced that its roof gardens <\/a>will remain closed for the rest of 2026 while repairs are carried out. Customers affected by roof garden cancellations have been contacted.<\/p>\n The fire service was also called to reports of a grass fire on the playing field surrounding Hope Street Primary School in Huyton<\/a> at 7.25pm on August 2.
