There will be no shortage of ways for people in Thunder Bay to celebrate Canada’s 159th birthday on Wednesday.
Free events are taking place at Fort William Historical Park and Marina Park, providing entertainment, activities, and plenty of national pride.
“Canada Day is a beloved event in Thunder Bay, attracting visitors and residents alike to come together and celebrate the cultural richness, the history, and the heritage of our unique city,” said Thunder Bay Mayor Ken Boshcoff. “Celebrating with Fort William Historical Park and at our vibrant waterfront is the perfect way to enjoy the many cultures, local talent, and treasures to explore in our growing and evolving city.”
Canada Day will kick off with a sunrise ceremony at Marina Park at 6 a.m. From there, residents can then head to Fort William Historical Park for a variety of outdoor activities, games, food, and cultural performances from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Fort William Historical Park welcomes everyone this Canada Day for a free event filled with entertainment and family-friendly activities to learn about and celebrate our nation’s diverse heritage,” said Fort William Historical Park’s general manager Patrick Morash.
The celebrations will then move to Marina Park at 3 p.m. and will continue into the evening with The Band Destiny headlining the musical entertainment on the main stage at 8 p.m.
The Band Destiny explores many genres of music, ranging from soca, reggae, pop, Bollywood, afrobeat and more.
On the park grounds, a variety of food vendors, artisans, and local community groups will greet visitors. Attendees can also engage in interactive activities including face painting and outdoor games. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to comfortably enjoy the day’s activities.
Free shuttles to Canada Day on the Waterfront at Marina Park will be available from the Canada Games Complex starting at 2:30 p.m., with the last shuttle leaving the event at 9:30 p.m. Pickup and dropoff will be at the Thunder Bay Tourist Pagoda on Red River Road.
Parking is free at all City of Thunder Bay surface parking lots on Canada Day. Marina Park will be closed to parking with limited accessible parking at the waterfront available. Call 807-625-3836 until Monday to request an accessible space. Parking is free at Fort William Historical Park.
