Two separate motorcycle collisions Saturday in northeast Calgary resulted in multiple people being sent to hospital.
Calgary police attended the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle and Honda Pilot SUV at 4:30 p.m. at the south end of Skyview Shores Manor N.E. Both drivers were approaching the intersection — the motorcycle driving west on Skyview Shores Manor N.E., the SUV on Skyview Shores Road N.E. — when the SUV turned left at the intersection, entering the motorcycle’s path, according to police.
The motorcycle driver was thrown from their bike and taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, while a rear passenger of the SUV was sent for precautionary reasons. The SUV’s driver, as well as a second passenger, were uninjured.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet or protective equipment, police said.
Another collision took place at 9 p.m. along the 3700 block of Barlow Trail involving two motorcycles and an SUV.
The two motorcycles were driving side-by-side on Barlow Trail, heading south towards the intersection with 37th Avenue N.E., while a Kia Seltos SUV travelling north on Barlow Trail was driving in the left turn lane. The SUV turned left and was hit by both motorcycles, said police, resulting in the drivers being thrown from their bikes.
The two motorcyclists were transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Two SUV passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was uninjured.
Speed is being investigated as a factor in both collisions.
