A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after a security guard was stabbed at a beer vendor in Winnipeg’s West Broadway area on Tuesday night.
Officers responded to a report of a fight between a youth and another patron at a licensed beer vendor on Westminster Avenue around 10 p.m. on June 30, police said in a news release.
A security guard broke up that altercation, but the youth was involved in another brawl a short time later, police said. Security staff intervened again and a guard was stabbed in the upper body before the youth ran away.
The security guard was taken to hospital in stable condition, police said.
Patrol officers scoured the area looking for the youth, with help from officials with the police force’s tactical support team, canine and drone units.
A 16-year-old boy was identified as the suspect in the stabbing. Police arrested him at a home in Osborne Village.
He has been charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence, police said. He was detained in custody.
During the search following the stabbing, police also found an 18-year-old man hiding. He was taken into custody and a knife was seized, police said. He is facing one count of failing to comply with conditions of a release order and was released on an appearance notice.
