One person was sent to the hospital after a blaze at Wyndham Crossing Apartments in north Edmonton Monday.
The fire was reported at 5:33 a.m. at 4807-137 Ave. with crews arriving just six minutes later. They were met with smoke and visible flames coming from one part of the building.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) called in for backup and worked to get residents evacuated. One person was taken to the hospital by EMS, and a firefighter was also assessed by paramedics, but no other injuries were reported.
Police are asking travellers to avoid 50 Street and 137 Avenue on their morning commutes.

The fire was brought under control at 6:48 a.m. but crews are still working to fully extinguish the last hot spots. EFRS said investigators are still working to determine a cause.
While the fire was contained to a few suites in the southwest corner of the complex, the entire structure was evacuated. Hundreds of residents are still displaced as crews haven’t been able to isolate power to the unaffected parts of the building.
