Elliotte Friedman has confirmed that a concrete trade offer was made to the Columbus Blue Jackets for him.
The Sportsnet insider confirmed it all.
The Canadiens didn’t just make a call out of curiosity.
“There were some reports out there that they made a big offer to Columbus, there was definitely an offer made.”
– Elliotte Friedman
Friedman did, however, temper expectations regarding the size of the offer.
“I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder there.”
Kirill Marchenko remains unavailable despite Kent Hughes’ trade offer
The issue is the player’s availability.
Marchenko simply isn’t on the trade market at the moment.
“But right now, he’s not available,” Friedman confirmed.
That aligns with what the Blue Jackets’ general manager had already said. Columbus has no intention of letting its forward go.
Still, Friedman’s confirmation is significant.
It confirms Kent Hughes’ intent. The Canadiens’ general manager is actively searching for a talented top-six forward.
It’s like making a strong offer on a house that isn’t for sale. The owner listens politely, but the door remains closed.
So the file isn’t closed-it’s simply on hold.
If Columbus changes its mind, Montreal would very likely be the first team to call again.
It shows that Kent Hughes is knocking on every door, even if it means being turned away.
Kirill Marchenko remains a player to watch.
