TORONTO — A well-travelled Winnipeg travel advisor will soon be packing her bags for a trip to Scotland – as the just-announced winner of a Glasgow getaway courtesy of VisitBritain, WestJet and RIT.
Christine Ward, Sr. Travel Advisor & Manager/Owner of Great Escapes by Christine, is the lucky recipient of the big prize, which includes roundtrip WestJet airfare for two to Glasgow, seven nights accommodation in Scotland, car rental, breakfast daily and itinerary planning and suggestions from the experts at RIT.
Promoted in collaboration with Travelweek, the contest put Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow, in the spotlight throughout the month of March. One hour from Loch Lomond and Stirling Castle, Glasgow offers easy access to Scotland’s top natural and historic sites.
“What’s not to love about Glasgow? Its gothic and Victorian architecture, a landlocked lighthouse, and the sleek silver lines of the Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum resting on the River Clyde all make it easy on the eye,” says Cathy Stapells, Director, Canada for VisitBritain.

Sharing her Glasgow insights in a recent Take 5, Stapells adds: “Culture vultures can seek out top art or a stuffed elephant at the bohemian Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. As the UK’s first UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow is internationally recognized as Scotland’s music capital. Glasgow is quite rightly heralded as one of the UK’s top food and drink scenes and the city has some truly epic restaurants and bars.”
