Katy Perry is letting her love for Canada be known. On Monday, the 41-year-old singer took to TikTok to show some love for a viral video set to her song, “The One that Got Away.”

Over the weekend, Kalan, a 20-year-old rapper from Toronto took to TikTok to share his take on a rap feature for Perry’s song from 2010’s Teenage Dream.

Kalan’s guest verse, which included nods to her songs “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake,” amassed more than 1.3 million views — and caught Perry’s attention.

“You know I’m Canada down,” Perry commented, along with an emoji of a Canadian flag and red heart.

Her words were in reference to the now-viral response by Calgary-born pop star Tate McRae, 22, who appeared in a U.S. Olympics promotional video for NBC in February 2026, Kalan’s home country and of course, Perry’s partner, former Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau.

The “California Gurls” singer’s post earned praise from fans, who urged the singer to make the collaboration with Kalan official.

“First Lady of Canada,” one person wrote.

“I wouldn’t stream this,” another said. “I’d buy it.”

“Please let it happen!” a TikTok user added.

Kalan’s remix of Perry’s hit song, which spent 24 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, was well timed. On Tuesday, Perry released an extended cut of “The One That Got Away” music video by Floria Sigismondi, an Italian-Canadian director.

Since its release in 2011, the song has remained one of Perry’s most popular songs and gained traction on TikTok and Instagram. Clips of the song have been used on more than 6.3 million videos of people reminiscing about past or lost loves.

“In the vault for 15 years, and you’ve given it a reason to come out and play. I hope you enjoy Floria Sigismondi’s Director’s Cut as much as I’ve enjoyed watching your stories of what TOTGA means to you,” Perry wrote to social media.

The video features an aged Perry reminiscing about her lost love, portrayed by Andor star, Diego Luna.

“Years later and this song is still a masterpiece. Truly timeless,” someone commented.

“This song will never be topped or touched. you gave us one of the saddest yet greatest pop songs of all time. thank you for reliving this time in our lives, but more importantly yours, with us,” another added.
