The Freedom Mobile Arch open-air event venue had already achieved a fair amount of fame even before the first paying customer passed through its gates.
But the early buzz may not be for the reason you might think.
In early spring 2025, work crews unearthed a number of historic military artifacts ranging from a First World War German field howitzer and a few 1870s-era cannons on the site. These items were turned over to the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Museum for preservation and storage.

Artifacts aside, the new 10,000-seat amphitheatre replaced the previous PNE Amphitheatre with a state-of-the-art facility that increased seating capacity by 3,000 for events such as the annual Summer Night Concerts series.
With tiered seating as well as open grass areas, it is a welcome addition to Vancouver’s entertainment infrastructure and expected to host events throughout most of the calendar year.
The project, originally estimated to cost $65 million in 2021, experienced skyrocketing cost increases reaching an estimated final figure of $183 million in 2025.

The Freedom Mobile Arch is the first new mixed-use amphitheatre of its kind to be constructed in the Lower Mainland since the Expo Theatre opened in 1986. That 4,000-seat facility was closed shortly after Expo 86 ended on Oct. 13, 1986.
Presenters and fans alike have been clamouring for a new venue of this kind that allows audiences to appreciate both fine views and adequate protection from the elements to showcase a variety of live performances.
The venue enters into operation playing host to the 2026 FIFA Fan Festival featuring both broadcasts of World Cup matches and assorted live concerts and more in summer 2026.

If driving is preferred, there is parking at the PNE, nearby on East Hastings. Pay parking for events is in effect, so expect increased rates around live event dates.
