U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he and Prime Minister Mark Carney had “a little bet” over last year’s World Series.
Trump didn’t get into specifics of the wager over the outcome of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays battle, but admitted Thursday that he wasn’t so sure during the series that went seven memorable games — and ended in heartbreak for Canada’s team — that he was going to win.
“That World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays proved to be among the most thrilling championships in the history of the sport,” Trump said during the Dodgers’ visit to the White House as players Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Miguel Rojas, Clayton Kershaw, and others looked on.
‘It wasn’t looking so good’
“I watched it because I was having a a little bet with the prime minister of Canada, I had a little bet,” Trump revealed. “I was not feeling so good for a little while. It wasn’t looking so good either.”
The American leader described it as “a hell of a series,” admitting he stayed up to watch the epic Game 3 that went to 18 innings, which the Dodgers won 6-5.
“It was a long one, but it was amazing,” Trump said.
“I thought it was a game that you were going to lose about four or five times, and you ended up winning,” he said, adding, “Luck is OK, too, right?” to which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts agreed: “Luck is OK.”
Trump noted: “But with talent you get a lot of luck.”

Showing Shohei love
Trump went on to liken Ohtani to Babe Ruth before listing the Japanese star’s array of accomplishments.
“The 2025 Dodger season was one for the record books in 150 years of Major League Baseball. No player has ever earned more than one unanimous league MVP, except for an international legend named Shohei Ohtani,” the president said.
He gushed: “He’s amazing. He’s amazing. Everybody loves him. Last year, Shohei did what was previously unthinkable. Nobody thought it was possible. He collected his third straight unanimous league MVP with a franchise record 55 home runs. And if you would have told me you can be the best pitcher and the best hitter at the same time, you know, Babe Ruth was pretty close to that.”

Trump said he spoke briefly with Roberts before the event and didn’t realize the Dodgers boasted the best record in baseball that day at 65-38.
“I’ve been a little busy with Iran and some other things,” Trump explained.
Roberts also told the president: “We’re going for a three-peat,” he said of his team, which defeated the New York Yankees to win it all in 2024.
“I’m thrilled to say welcome back to the White House,” Trump said. “And maybe I’ll see you again next year.”
