The Vancouver Hong Kong Fair returns to North Vancouver’s Shipyards on May 3 for its fifth year, with an expanded program centred on street culture.
Organized by the volunteer collective HK House, the annual event has grown into one of the largest cultural fairs in Hong Kong in North America. It brings together food vendors, designers, artists, and performers, with programming that reflects everyday life in Hong Kong and the experiences of the local diaspora.
This year’s theme focuses on the city’s streets, with installations and activations drawing from architecture, housing, and neighbourhood visual culture. Elements like school uniforms, Cantopop, and familiar storefronts, from bakeries to herbal shops, are used to recreate shared points of reference across generations.
The event will feature a cultural market with more than 70 vendors, offering handmade goods, artwork, and design-focused products. Food vendors will highlight Hong Kong street food, while the HKer Stage hosts a full day of performances. Additional programming includes workshops, photo booths, and a screening of the 2006 film Exiled.
The fair is designed to reflect both cultural continuity and change, creating a space for community gathering while introducing broader audiences to Hong Kong culture through food, design, and shared experience.
