The Toronto Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled the 2026 lineups for it Wavelengths and TIFF Classics sidebars. The fest runs September 10-20.

The Wavelengths program – celebrating boundary-pushing filmmaking – will showcase 11 feature films as well as a selection of short and mid-length works.

Feature highlights include At Night by UK artist Beatrice Gibson; Lisandro Alonso’s Double Freedom, a spinoff of 2001 breakout La Libertad; and Sebastian Brameshuber’s award-winning work London, exploring connection across a changing Europe and shot with vintage rear-projection technology.

TIFF regulars Nicolás Pereda and Angela Schanelec return with Everything Else is Noise and My Wife Cries, respectively.

There will be world premieres for The Black Box is Orange, an essay film by Toronto-based filmmaker and artist Yuula Benivolski balancing the political with the poetic, as well as John Torres’ The Remotes, which refracts sci-fi, film noir, the thriller and Filipino commercial cinema through his own signature lens.

Non-fiction highlights include William and David Greaves’ posthumous historical documentary Once Upon a Time in Harlem and Life of Jorge Luis Borges, a five-and-a-half-hour epic by filmmaker Mariano Llinás, exploring explores the life of the iconic writer through objects and places.

Rounding out the feature lineup is Denis Côté’s Nobody’s Violence as well as Romanian auteur Radu Jude’s The Diary of a Chambermaid.

The short and mid-lengths lineup includes Kamal Aljafari’s Masao Adachi Takes a Passport Photo; Maryam Tafakory’s Ghazal-e Sorkh, an essay film recounting the 1976 boycott of the Shiraz Art Festival; and Zheng Lu Xinyuan’s nocturnal Fire Flies, in which the filmmaker is led on a flashlight-illuminated stroll through the mountains.

TIFF Classics highlights include a 4K director’s cut of Ken Russell’s The Devils, starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, and features sets by Derek Jarman, and Lynne Stopkewich’s transgressive whorl Kissed, starring Molly Parker, which premiered at the festival in 1996 and now returns in a new 4K restoration.

A sidebar entitled the Pelechian Project will also present five newly restored films by Armenian filmmaker and theorist Artavazd Pelechian.
