A 25-year-old Calgary man has been charged after two people were shot at a downtown Calgary C-train station Saturday night, police say.

Police says officers were called to the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station at about 8 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found two men with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Investigators believe three men got into an argument while riding the C-train. When the train reached the station, all three men got off. Police say one of them pulled out a pistol and shot the other the two , then fled.

Both victims were taken to Foothills Hospital. One man was in stable condition, the other was in life threatening condition but has since been upgraded to stable, according to police.

Officers searched the area and arrested the suspect nearby, just a few meters from the platform.

Police have identified the accused as Mostafa Jafari 25, of Calgary. He faces two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent, one count of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, one count of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Jafari remains in custody, he is scheduled to appear in court today.

“Brazen acts of violence like this have no place in Calgary and have a lasting impact on the community,” acting staff sergeant Corey Der said in a statement. Der said the man put the public at risk and showed no regard for the safety of others, and that he will be held accountable.

Police say fighting gun violence remains a priority for the service.

The shooting happened on the platform just outside the BMOCenter. Safety on Calgary’s transit network has been a growing public concern in recent years. It comes as the city works to improve safety on it’s transit system. City council approved a one-time, $9 million transit safety pilot for 2026, and Calgary added 34 new transit peace officers in late June, bringing the total to 212.
