Escaping to the outdoors is often a winning bet when you need to unwind, and if you’re in Ontario, spending some time in Muskoka is hard to beat. In the lead-up to a busy MLB trade deadline, soaking up some lake time is just what some baseball families needed.
Erica Scherzer, the wife of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer, took to social media on Wednesday to share that she and a few friends fled to Ontario’s cottage country ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline. In her post, the 40-year-old mom-of-four raved over the picturesque trip and how she found solace among other WAGs.
“Muskoka, you have my heart! A much-needed trip during a very emotional time with baseball friends that are all too familiar with difficult trade deadlines,” she wrote in the caption to her post. “Sometimes the universe aligns and you end up with an amazing support system and one of the most memorable trips. Until next time.”
The first photo of the post included a photo of herself posing on a boat with Kristina Kelley, the wife of retired pitcher Shawn Kelley. Erica also included photos of her kids enjoying treats, lakeside sunsets and clips of the children tubing on the water.
The comments section was full of people appreciating the natural beauty of the region. Others expressed their support for the Scherzer family.
“Oh, Muskoka. So many memories. Why is it over,” Kristina wrote with a crying emoji. “Love you, friend!”
“Beautiful! Muskoka memories are something else,” the Discover Muskoka account penned on Instagram.
“Hard to top Muskoka summers,” someone added. “Glad you and your family have been able to retreat there during such a challenging time. Hope you’ll keep coming back in years to come!”
“Lived in Muskoka my entire life and it is incredible! Happy to have you and Max with the Blue Jays and glad you get to experience this amazing place,” someone else shared.
The Blue Jays had a busy trade deadline on Monday, making several moves up until the final minute. While the team traded Jeff Hoffman to the Minnesota Twins and Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs, they decided to keep impending free agents Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber.

Hopes were high for the Blue Jays this season after a thrilling 2025 World Series, but the team has since faced loss after loss, putting them last in the A.L. East division.
Ahead of the trade deadline earlier this week, Scherzer said the team had no one to blame but themselves for the uncertainty going into Monday.
“We have not performed to our capabilities, and now the front office might have to make decisions about our roster because of that,” said Scherzer. “I understand that. I respect what the front office has to do. They’ve got to make decisions that are best for the organization.
“If they sell, that’s on us. That’s on us as players that we have not done our job of holding up our end of the bargain and going out there and winning ball games.”
In February, Erica shared a picture of a note her daughter, Brooke, wrote in December 2025 asking the Blue Jays to keep her father on the team despite their World Series loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 8-year-old wrote she was excited to stay in the city, and that the “whole family” loves spending time in Toronto.
“It’s the cutest thing you can possibly imagine when you read that, how much it meant to her to be in Toronto,” Max told reporters in March after he signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jays valued at $3 million USD on March 2.
