Meghan Markle isn’t afraid to show up for an important cause — and support a Canadian designer while she’s at it. Markle and Prince Harry were among the stars who attended a gala for the David Foster Foundation in B.C., and their looks proved they can easily dress to impress.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were just some of the biggest names at the charity’s 40th anniversary celebration in Victoria on Friday. For the couple’s surprise appearance on Canada’s west coast, the Suits alum wore a black one-shoulder gown by Canadian designer Greta Constantine.
The With Love, Meghan star’s dress featured a thigh-high slit and a hemline that flowed into a short train. She paired the look with a sleek bun and wore the late Princess Diana’s diamond-and-sapphire earrings. Harry opted for a black tuxedo and bow tie for an equally dashing outfit.
Across social media, the pair received rave reviews over their red carpet moment. Others reflected on how happy the two looked during their outing.
“This dress is stunning,” one person on Instagram penned. “The way it falls of the shoulders into a trail is just wow!
“So stunning! Meghan looked incredible,” a fan account shared.
“The fab two! They look terrific and happy,” someone added.
“Oh, Meghan’s dress is so perfect. Love it!” someone else wrote on Facebook, along with a Canadian flag emoji.
At the event, the pair also posed for photos with their friends, David Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee. Foster, a Victoria-born music producer, created the foundation to offer financial support for Canadian families with children who require life-saving organ transplants.

Meghan and Harry have had a relationship with Foster for years. In 2019, the composer arranged for the royal couple and their son, Archie, to stay at a mansion on Vancouver Island.
“I felt honored that I was able to help Meghan there, because I’m a Canadian and we’re a commonwealth country, we’re the Crown’s. It’s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment,” Foster told the Daily Mail at the time. “I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.
“I don’t know what their next plans are, but I know that it was reinvigorating for them to spend some downtime. This is a great testament to my hometown of Victoria that they were able to go under the radar for so long.”
A few months later, McPhee dished on the bond her and her husband have with the duo: “My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry,” McPhee told Access Hollywood. “They’re so cute. They’re like father and son.”

McPhee added they stay in touch: “But mostly, Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It’s really nice.”
Later in 2020, the two pairs were seen on a double date in California after Meghan and Harry stepped back from royal duties.
Friday’s date night comes a few days after Meghan celebrated her 45th birthday. On Aug. 4, the actress took to social media to share a black-and-white photo of herself jumping into a pool while holding onto several balloons.
“Thank you for the birthday love!” she penned in the post.
