Police have arrested a youth in connection with the suspicious death of a 16-year-old girl in northeast Edmonton on Sunday.

The 16-year-old female victim was found “seriously injured” after police were called to a shooting in the area of 139 Avenue and 32 Street just before 7 a.m., said police in a Sunday news release.

EPS confirmed in an email to the media on Tuesday that an arrest has been made, but no other information in regard to the investigation can be made public at this time, because the suspect is a youth.

EPS said an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, and more information will be provided at a later date.

Recently, a GoFundMe campaign was set up to help support her mother and family.

“(She) was a beautiful 16-year-old girl who had so many dreams ahead of her. She grew up surrounded by many friends and was very loved by her two younger siblings,” said the creator of the GoFundMe.

“They are now facing the unimaginable pain of losing their big sister, someone who meant so much to them and who they looked up to.”
