A vacant house on Argyle Street is being demolished after firefighters battled a major blaze there Thursday morning — the second fire at the building since June.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of the fire at 6:01 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Fire conditions prevented firefighters from safely entering the building, so crews fought the blaze from outside, using an aerial ladder to direct water onto the flames. The fire was brought under control at 9:27 a.m.

Paramedics assessed one firefighter at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

The building sustained severe fire, smoke and water damage, adding to damage from a fire in June 2026. Due to concerns about the structure’s stability, and to help firefighters locate and extinguish any remaining hotspots, WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition of the building.

Traffic was reduced to one northbound lane on the Disraeli Freeway as crews worked at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
