A man is facing multiple charges after a stabbing incident at a St. Vital apartment that left one victim seriously injured.
Officers responded to the 600 block of Dakota Street for a report of a stabbing at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say a man — believed to be intoxicated — armed himself with a knife and refused to leave a family residence. He allegedly attempted to stab a female relative in her 40s, who was able to defend herself with a laundry basket and wasn’t injured. The accused then left the suite and was locked out of the building but continued trying to regain access, police said.
Once outside, he allegedly confronted an unknown male in his late teens who was in front of the building, robbing him of his property at knifepoint. That victim wasn’t physically injured.
A third relative, a man in his 50s, then came outside and confronted the still-armed accused. During the confrontation, the man was stabbed and seriously injured. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, which was later upgraded to stable.
The accused fled the area but was located by police a few blocks west on Arden Avenue and taken into custody.
Marvin Nallaq Shimout, 27, of Coral Harbour, Nunavut, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery and possession of a weapon. He remains in custody.
