UBC Faculty of Medicine researchers have been awarded new federal funding through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to support cutting-edge research infrastructure and help propel innovation across the country.

The five projects will address critical areas of health research including children’s precision medicine, brain health, lung health and more.

A total of 31 projects led by UBC researchers were awarded $5.8 million through CFI’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) competition. Across Canada, $118 million, invested through the JELF and College Funds, will support 357 research infrastructure projects at 68 postsecondary institutions.

“Canada is investing in researchers and innovators whose ideas will drive our future prosperity,” said the Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. “Through more than $118 million in funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, we are equipping researchers with the cutting-edge infrastructure they need to advance discovery, attract top talent and build Canada’s economic growth and resilience.”

JELF enables universities to attract and retain world-class research talent by providing the state-of-the-art infrastructure researchers need to succeed and advance research that improves health, drives innovation and strengthens Canada’s economy.
