What were described as the suspicious deaths of two Ottawa residents were under investigation by the Ottawa Police Service and Sûreté du Québec on Saturday.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on Aug. 22, a news release said, Sûreté du Québec responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Papineauville, about 75 kilometres northeast of Ottawa.
According to the release, an individual was located inside the vehicle with injuries considered to be suspicious. Transported to a hospital, they died shortly afterward.
As part of their own investigation, Sûreté du Québec requested assistance from the Ottawa Police Service, whose officers went to a dwelling in the 200 block of Guigues Avenue in the Lowertown neighbourhood and found a second individual just after 11 a.m.
A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service said that individual, a woman, was declared dead at the scene.
The police news release said the identities of the two deceased would not be immediately released pending notification of next of kin, adding that area residents might notice an increased police presence as investigators continued to gather evidence and to speak with potential witnesses.
There was no ongoing threat to public safety, the release added.
