The felon is distracting us from Iran by attacking Canada. With tariffs.

Canada is retaliating. And if you scroll down in order to read some of the demands, you will see how silly these demands are. He does not expect them to be met. They are designed to distract from his other messes and to further punish Americans and our allies.

Gotta think this will not play well in some of the border states, some of which have critical Senate races. And all Republicans, who have done nothing to stop the felon and his minions, should be tied to these tariffs and the trade war, instead of being re-elected.

You think the Iran war is bad for energy prices? Take a look at the influence of Canada:

We don’t hear much about this, because Canada has always been nice. I mean, there are plenty of reasons to be angry with Iran, but now with our sweet neighbor? And, I guess if Canada wants, it could sell some of this energy (I know it’s not easy to change all of this, pipelines and so on) to reliable allies.

Anyway, let’s take a look at how tight the senate races on the border were BEFORE this most recent fiasco:

Michigan (open seat): Newsweek

The series of polls showed El-Sayed with narrow, single-digit leads, meaning the race against Rogers is still expected to be competitive in November. However, they may be welcome news for Democrats after some polling around the primary gave Rogers an advantage.

An AARP poll released on Thursday found El-Sayed leading Rogers by a single point, 48 percent to 47 percent.

El-Sayed received support from 91 percent of Democratic respondents, while Rogers received support from 96 percent of Republicans. Independents narrowly broke for El-Sayed, 48 percent to 42 percent.

It’s a tight race, but the felon is making it easier, because Michigan does so much business with Canada.

Maine (R incumbent):

The 2026 Maine U.S. Senate race is becoming increasingly competitive, with a new Fox News poll showing Democratic candidate Troy Jackson holding a narrow lead over incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins.www.newsweek.com/new-maine-se…

Collins has survived other challenges, but if there’s a trade war with Canada, that’s gotta help team blue.

And Alaska! (R incumbent) From Johnny Paldamessa, No More Going High

At home the economic damage is already registering. A Financial Times/Focaldata poll found that 24% of 2024 Trump voters now say they are worse off. 23% of those who backed him in 2020 report the same. Overall, 53% of the 2,152 respondents; drawn from both parties; say their finances have deteriorated since Trump returned to the White House.

Americans are paying the price of Trump’s confrontational foreign policy. They are growing exhausted by the radical agenda that rides alongside it. Nowhere is that exhaustion clearer than in Alaska, a state Trump has carried three times. Democrat Mary Peltola, a former congresswoman and lifelong Alaskan, is leading the race to unseat Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan.

An Alaska Survey Research poll put her ahead by +1.6 points. Another survey from the same firm showed her up by +7. In deep-red territory, a Democrat is within reach of a Senate seat.

Alaska borders no other US states. It borders Canada. So, they do lots of business with Canada.

Naturally, the right has been trying to spin this as the US should be able to demand anything because we are big and strong and powerful.

Or…?

My opinion is that the felon is working for himself and other world oligarchs (especially putin) and is trying to ruin the US – our institutions, our democracy, our industry, our people.

But maybe our candidates on the border can use this most recent stupidity to help themselves get elected. The WSJ calls it the dumbest trade war, revisited:

President Trump took exception last year when we called his tariffs against Canada and Mexico the dumbest trade war in history. It got dumber this weekend as Mr. Trump escalated with another round of border taxes on Canadian imports, a mere 10 weeks before midterm elections. ✂️

Mr. Trump’s latest round of border taxes will hit an array of consumer goods, construction materials and manufacturing components. Republicans are already getting pounded on the campaign trail over his tariffs and inflation. One reason for Mr. Trump’s frigid approval rating is that voters believe Mr. Trump is waging blunderbuss wars without a strategy, and on trade they’re right.

Even if this doesn’t happen, it has been threatened, and so is dangerous to all those in northern border states.
