The Edmonton Funicular was among the targets of an August Downtown vandalism spree that resulted in around $100,000 in damages, police say.
On Wednesday, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said a man was arrested in connection with numerous property damage incidents between Aug. 19 and 25. Glass panels and windows were smashed at various Downtown locations, including the MacEwan and Central LRT Stations, ATB Place and the Edmonton Funicular.
Using CCTV footage, EPS, along with Edmonton Transit peace officers, charged Chavez Adam Phillip Coyote, 19, on Aug. 26. Chavez Coyote is facing several charges and is set to appear in court Sept. 3.
“This investigation highlights the value of strong partnerships and co-ordinated enforcement,” said EPS downtown branch Acting Insp. Shelley Fisher in a media release. “Working alongside transit peace officers, our officers were able to identify and arrest a suspect known to police.”
Anyone who witnessed or has information about the damages or suspect is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
