An Ottawa woman was charged Monday with a pair of felonies stemming from a report that two children were abused at an Ottawa childcare facility.

Anna M. Cervantes, 66, was picked up on a La Salle County warrant charging her with two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony carrying a possible prison sentence of two to five years.

Cervantes was released Tuesday from La Salle County Jail with conditions including GPS monitoring. She will next appear, with the public defender, for arraignment Oct. 2 in La Salle County Circuit Court.

The La Salle County Public Defender’s Office declined comment on Cervantes’ charges at this stage of the case.

In a Tuesday news release, Ottawa police said they were alerted, on Aug. 15, a report of abuse of two children provided by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The abuse had allegedly occurred at “a local childcare facility,” Ottawa police said.

“During the ensuing investigation, detectives obtained surveillance footage of the alleged incident and conducted interviews with involved parties,” police said. “At the conclusion of the investigation, the case report was forwarded to the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. ”
